Even though Sony let players link their Discord with a PlayStation ID a while ago, actually using it required you to use the PlayStation smartphone app. A new PlayStation 5 update is set to change that, which comes just a day after Xbox announced its June Update for consoles, PC and cloud gaming. The update also lets you directly share your PlayStation Network profile directly via any messaging app.
You can soon hop into a Discord voice chat directly from the PlayStation 5 via a new UI element. A new Discord icon has been added to the Game Base, from where you'll be able to see your online friends/groups and hop into an audio call. The new update also notifies you of incoming Discord calls from contacts.
Unfortunately, the new feature will roll out in waves, with users in Asia/Japan slated to receive it first, followed by other regions. Interestingly, Americans will be the last in queue this time around. Sony hasn't specified a launch timeline, meaning you'll have to periodically keep checking your console for a software update.
