Overlapping Flex Items

Problem

Displaying a set of unknown number of playing cards horizontally can lead to them overlapping if they exceed a certain width. Flex boxes can be used for this purpose, but controlling the size and overlap can be tricky.

Solution

The solution involves setting specific CSS properties to achieve the desired effect. Here's a breakdown:

• Container: The .cards container uses flexbox (display: flex) and sets a maximum width (max-width: 35em) to ensure the cards stay within a specific boundary.
• Overflow Control: The .cardWrapper element wraps each card and is used to control its overflow. The overflow: hidden property initially hides any overflowing cards.
• Hover and Last Child: When hovering over a cardWrapper or if it's the last child, the overflow: visible property is applied to allow the overflowing cards to become visible. This ensures only the relevant cards are visible at any given time.
• Card Styling: The .card element has a fixed width and minimum width (10em) to ensure they don't shrink. The height, border, and background color can be customized as needed.
